Striving to make Escanaba a better place.

It is our belief that a clean city is essential to the survival and growth of Escanaba. Too often people look the other way and let garbage pile up, let dirt collect in the alleys and parking lots and let the older buildings fall into disuse and decay. Everyone is willing to complain about how “things aren’t like they use to be” or bemoan the areas that have become run down and drug ridden, but who is standing up to stop it?

We are.

This group, this event is a line in the sand - “This far and no more”. Up till now we’ve been a once-a-year reminder to do better by our city, but now is the time to move beyond that. We need to go to the next level and take on bigger, marquee projects: painting derelict buildings, replacing broken windows, pouring concrete, etc. What’s more, if we become a non-profit organization with a permanent board we can do more than just a once-a-year demonstration. Escanaba needs to change and we can help.

Read Our Vision Statement

What is it?

The goal is to make Escanaba a better place by cleaning up. Last year we hauled away between 5,000 and 7,000 pounds of garbage, dirt, debris, and other junk. We powerwashed sidewalks and business fronts. We got children & families involved, by reaching out to the Escanaba Upper Elementary, YMCA, Boy & Girl Scouts, and the City of Escanaba so that they would see and understand civic responsibility and pride. Escanaba has always been a great place to live and we can all help keep it that way.

We expanded the Cleanup area to cover all the way from Sears down Lincoln to Ludington Street and all the way down to Ludington Park. Teams of children cleaned the Park and Beach areas adding one of Escanaba's greatest treasures, Ludington Park, to our Cleanup for the first time. While this is our designated area we also encourage people to form groups to cleanup their own neighborhoods or community areas like Royce Park. No help is refused.

Then when all the cleanup is done we hold a party not just as a reward to those who helped out but so that the kids who participate see that you get back what you put in. We want to teach them that if you do good things then good things will happen to you.

Where do I fit in?

The Escanaba Cleanup works because people just like you volunteer. The Best thing you can do to help? Form a team and participate! The first and most important thing you can do is form a team and help us cleanup on May 19th. Are you a non-profit organization, service club, youth group, church group, or a collection of individuals looking to do good? Are a contractor? Handyman? Would you like to help on a project? Would you like to donate time, material, special equipment? Are you an educator? Click on the Trash Talkin link to learn more about how you can help. It's an educational program for elementary school children focusing on the Environment and civic responsibility.

If you’re someone that cares about your town we encourage you to get involved. Use the contact information below to volunteer or register a team.

Want to sponsor the event? See our Sponsor Packages Here.

What will we be doing?

Cleanup includes sweeping, raking, pulling weeds, spraying weed killer, picking up cigarette butts, picking up trash, mowing and trimming where needed, and basically giving some love and attention to each area. If possible please bring a broom or rake. We supply FREE gloves and heavy duty trash bags but we have a limited supply of brooms and rakes. Please bring your own if possible. Thank you.

All trash needs to be in a heavy duty trash bag and placed along the alleys behind or curb of Ludington Street for FREE pickup at the conclusion of the event.
